Where Memoir Begins
remembering to remember and developing active scenes
Sunday, June 21, 2020, 3 PM – 4:15 PM EST
We’ll identify our hopes and fears as we wrestle with the memoir form, define and illustrate the concept of scene as it relates to memoir, ease toward our past with the help of question cascades, and talk about the ways that we can tap photographs, songs, objects, and records as memoir source material. The work of Margaret Renkl, Tony Earley, Natasha Trethewey, Dan Fox, Lavinia Greenlaw, and others will guide the journey. Numerous writing exercises focused on scene building will be shared along the way.
