The Art of the Moment
seeing and writing the lives we live now
Sunday, July 12, 2020, 3 PM – 4:15 PM EST
We’ll turn our focus toward the present and the lives we’re living now—the details that attract and intrigue us, the motifs that frame our lives, and the moments that we hope to keep alive on the page. The work of Karl Ove Knausgaard, Virginia Woolf, Nina Riggs, Heather Christle, Joan Didion, Natalia Ginzburg, Ross Gay, and others will illuminate the journey. The differences between telling details, unreliable details, and superfluous details will be illustrated. Exercises will focus on the collection of meaningful details and the use of those details in the development of essays or memoir chapters.
