writing the domestic
Sunday, August 9, 2020, 3 PM – 4:15 PM EST
What does it mean to write home? Why must we ultimately find a way to reckon with the places we have left—and returned to? We’ll turn to the work of Andre Dubus III, Sandra Cisernos, George Hodgman, Jacqueline Woodson, A. Manette Ansay, Kate Moses, Sarah M. Broom, Mary Gordon, Frank McCourt, Bruce Springsteen, and others to learn about the ways in which writers convey house and home and use domestic details to speak of larger questions and discoveries. Question cascades and exercises will help fine-tune participant approaches to physical and metaphorical concepts of home.
